Count Down to Election Day

We're coming down the electoral home stretch (at last!). With Election Day less than one week away, it increasingly looks like Americans will elect Hillary Clinton to be the next President of the United States. It also appears that Democrats will win some seats in the House of Representatives, but not enough to regain a majority. The Senate races are where the real "action" will be on Election Night. Democrats need to pick up just four seats (assuming Mrs. Clinton wins the Presidency) to regain majority control of the upper congressional chamber. Although I plan to deliver a detailed post-election analysis and preview of the next Congress and Presidential Administration at The NATSO Show on Monday, January 23, 2017, I wanted to share some information now that you may find helpful.

  1. These "Presidential" slides contain a snapshot of the most well-respected national and state-by-state polling done on the Presidential race. The package of slides also includes an interesting slide showing what Presidential "betting markets" (yes, those do exist!) predict. (View the "Presidential" slides here.)

  2. These "Senate" slides provide an overview of the current state-of-play in the Senate, including an overview of the current partisan breakdown in the Senate and individual slides on nine highly competitive races throughout the country, the results of which will dictate the balance of power in the Senate. (View the "Senate" slides.)

  3. These "House" slides provide an overview of potential changes to House chairmen and ranking members for the next Congress. Several House committees with jurisdiction over issues NATSO follows closely, including the Energy and Commerce Committee, are due for leadership changes next year. (View the "House" slides.)

Election Day will be a critically important day for the country, but also for the travel plaza industry. NATSO will provide a post-election analysis next week after Election Day, breaking down some of the key races and developments from the election and placing it all into context of what this means for the NATSO's policy and political agenda.

Don't forget to vote!
